Buy Narrowleaf Plum Trees for sale at Advanced Nursery Growers in DeFuniak Springs, Florida.

Narrowleaf Plum, also commonly known as Chickasaw Plum, is a Florida native fruiting shrub or small tree valued for its beautiful spring flowers, edible fruit, wildlife benefits, and adaptability to southern growing conditions. This native plum is an excellent choice for North Florida, the Florida Panhandle, South Alabama, and the Gulf Coast.

In late winter to early spring, Narrowleaf Plum produces clusters of fragrant white flowers, often before the leaves emerge. The early flowers create a beautiful display and provide an important food source for bees and other pollinators.

The flowers are followed by small oval plums that ripen from yellow to red. The fruit can range from tart to pleasantly sweet when fully ripe and may be eaten fresh or used for jelly, jam, preserves, sauces, and other recipes. The fruit is also highly attractive to birds and other wildlife.

Narrowleaf Plum naturally grows as a spreading, often multi-trunked shrub or small tree. It frequently produces root suckers and can form colonies or thickets when allowed to naturalize. This makes it especially useful for wildlife plantings, native landscapes, hedgerows, and naturalized areas. Suckers can also be removed if a more tree-like specimen is desired.

North Florida Growing Note: Narrowleaf Plum is native to Florida and naturally adapted to our North Florida climate. It tolerates heat, periods of drought, and a wide range of soils, making it a particularly useful native fruit tree for the DeFuniak Springs and Florida Panhandle area. It performs best in acidic, well-drained soil and does not perform as well in alkaline conditions.

Pollinator for Florida Plums: Narrowleaf or Chickasaw Plum has another valuable use in a North Florida fruit planting. UF/IFAS notes that Prunus angustifolia can serve as a pollinator for Gulf-series plums. Chickasaw Plum often blooms somewhat earlier than the Gulf varieties, however, so successful cross-pollination depends on the bloom periods overlapping.

Narrowleaf Plum is a great choice for customers wanting a Florida native fruit tree that combines edible fruit, fragrant spring flowers, pollinator benefits, and wildlife value with excellent adaptability to our North Florida growing conditions.
